Now to your letter.....Funerals. That is what caught my eye. I have not been to many in Australia, actually only one as far as I can remember. And that one really upset me. Not because of the corpse. In my early years as cabinetmaker, 1950 in Neukirchen, putting people into coffins was part of the job. From there I have stories that I will keep to myself! Yes corpses I am familiar with. No, what disturbed me so was all the fuss, the service, as it is called here. How can one, in a serious situation such as this, stoop to such pure kitsch! And everyone sees it as quite normal! If out of my funeral they make such a spectacle, I will come back from the dead and dig my own hole!
Ah yes..the second funeral was that of Princess Dianne. Commentary not necessary. But you see what I mean. I can't help it ..I am simply not a holy person, or maybe I am too holy!
Jees. Back to the one who appears to have His Finger in everything. This topic will interest us for quite some time, I hope. Slowly I will figure it out, even if only partially, answers to all those questions that have preoccupied me for so long.
Is God good? What is the definition of the word good? - I won't look it up, we know what is meant by good. But what has this to do with God? Instead of aligning ourselves with God, we align God with us! Of course our horizon is dwarfed, insurmountable. Our view was not much further than to where we could travel by foot, when religion sort of evolved itself.
Understandably, our "knowledge" aligned itself to our understanding. It is amazing enough, that we got as far as we did in those days.
But seriously, He, who created this Universe, or better, in who evolution has its being, under these mighty and catastrophic natural events to which we are now witnesses, can one measure Him as good or bad?
The difference between good and bad only serves our social order, a necessity to maintaining human communities.
What is not possible to understand here is that we are so directly steered by His Presence from which He seems to have His Finger in everything. I am happy that we understand each other here.
